about

This is the only real love song of the album. I wrote this for my girlfriend at the time for our one year anniversary. The original version is for saxophone quartet and lead vocals, but I wanted to make the ensemble bigger and fuller. As soon as I had written the chord progression back in 2016, I knew I wanted a choir of some sort to sing it. Now that I was doing it for the album, I knew I could finally do that- and I knew just the people to sing it.

I got in touch with the Patek family, Dana, Steve, Leah, and my good friend Max, about singing it because they just happen to make up a four part choir. They graciously agreed and we set a date. I had decided I wanted to record it in Charlottesville High School's Martin Luther King Performing Arts Center in order to incorporate more of my past and more of Charlottesville into the album.

On the very day that we recorded the choir parts, awful things were taking place in our beloved Charlottesville. Saturday, the 12th of August 2017, was the day that the so called 'alt-right' protest took place. While this display of hatred took place, we chose to fight it by creating beautiful music in an auditorium named after the voice of the civil rights movement. To me, these circumstances add even more to the story of the album.

lyrics

When I saw her
She set my heart aflame

And in that moment
I knew she had to be mine (had to be mine)

Because the light goes on
And I'm lost again
The light goes on
And I can't pretend

Because I'm running out of
Ways to lie to myself
Can't keep chasing
Memories

I can't imagine
My life without her
It seems so crazy
I thought she'd never be mine

Because the light goes on
And now I see it clearly
Light goes on and
I can see she's nearly

Falling now I think I'm
Falling in love
Light goes on
And I can't get enough
